Summer Program May Be the Bridge to College Success

Success is one of the goals for students using the Tennessee Promise scholarship. The scholarship has allowed thousands of students who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend college, due to the lack of financial resources, to go. With the guarantee of funds once all of the scholarship requirements are fulfilled, the Summer Bridge Program is offered to ensure students using the scholarship are successful as they begin their college journey.

The Summer Bridge Program is a free, three-week program created to assist incoming students in being college-ready once they begin school in the fall. The program was designed for all students, but is specifically geared towards those who are entering college with ACT scores below 19 in math and reading and 18 in English. Students are accepted into the program on a first come, first serve basis, so applying early is advised.

The program is offered on campuses throughout Tennessee, making the program conveniently accessible to students across the state. Each day during the program, students will receive instruction in math, reading and writing and attend a lunch and learn session with a focus on college success. If desired, students will have an opportunity on the last day of the program to test out of remedial courses at the college they plan to attend.

The Summer Bridge Program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 15 campuses. Lunch will be provided during the lunch and learn sessions. The Summer Bridge Program application closes one month prior to the start of the program date.
