TN Promise Spring Team Meetings Announced

The TN Promise has been a financial blessing to several homeschool families in Tennessee . Many students who may have been unable to attend college, due to the lack of finances, now have the monetary means for continuing their education past high school. The application process for the TN Promise is relatively easy. Hopefully, your graduating high school senior completed the online application by Tuesday, November 1, of this year. If so, that was just the first step in the process.

Although there are a number of requirements that must be fulfilled by the student to remain eligible for the scholarship, everything is mapped out. The steps are easy to follow and the deadlines are extremely important to not miss. There are no exceptions when it comes to the listed dates for required actions to be taken. After the application process, the next step students must complete is to attend the second of two mandatory team meetings, which are held in each county throughout Tennessee. The second team meeting for Private/Homeschool/Alternative students will be held in the months of March and April. All TN Promise applicants must attend the two scheduled mandatory team meetings (the first was in 2016 and the second in 2017) to remain eligible for the scholarship. Unfortunately, if your child misses either meeting, they lose the scholarship opportunity. There are no exceptions (possible accepted excuses). Below is a list of the counties that have team meetings scheduled for March and April. Students must attend the meeting that is held in the county where they live. If you are unable to attend the scheduled meeting or missed the one in your county, contact your tnAchieves counselor immediately.

You may also contact tnAchieves for more information.

Check REDI if you do not see your county listed at tnAchieves.

Summer Program May Be the Bridge to College Success

Success is one of the goals for students using the Tennessee Promise scholarship. The scholarship has allowed thousands of students who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend college, due to the lack of financial resources, to go. With the guarantee of funds once all of the scholarship requirements are fulfilled, the Summer Bridge Program is offered to ensure students using the scholarship are successful as they begin their college journey.

The Summer Bridge Program is a free, three-week program created to assist incoming students in being college-ready once they begin school in the fall. The program was designed for all students, but is specifically geared towards those who are entering college with ACT scores below 19 in math and reading and 18 in English. Students are accepted into the program on a first come, first serve basis, so applying early is advised.

The program is offered on campuses throughout Tennessee, making the program conveniently accessible to students across the state. Each day during the program, students will receive instruction in math, reading and writing and attend a lunch and learn session with a focus on college success. If desired, students will have an opportunity on the last day of the program to test out of remedial courses at the college they plan to attend.

The Summer Bridge Program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 15 campuses. Lunch will be provided during the lunch and learn sessions. The Summer Bridge Program application closes one month prior to the start of the program date.
