Today is Monday, October 31, 2022, and that is one day before the Tennessee Promise Scholarship application closes for 2023 graduating high school seniors to apply and meet the November 1, 2022, deadline.

The Tennessee Promise is a last dollar scholarship that was first offered to Tennessee students in 2015, and covers tuition and fees “not covered by the federal Pell grant, the HOPE Scholarship, or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award at any of the state’s 13 community colleges or 27 colleges of applied technology“. In addition to those schools, students may also use the scholarship at select Tennessee two-year and four-year colleges and universities towards an associates degree. Along with the scholarship opportunity, the Tennessee Promise provides mentoring to students guiding them from the application process through to the start of their college career.

Eligibility requirements to apply for the scholarship are the following:

Student must be a Tennessee resident.
Student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2023
Student must complete the TN Promise application by Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. If the student misses the deadline, they are ineligible for the scholarship. There is no grace!

Scholarship requirements:

Student must apply by the November 1, 2022 deadline.
Student must file the 2023 – 2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2023, which is now open, and provide required documentation to satisfy FAFSA verification.
Student must attend the mandatory team meeting(s) and watch required webinar(s).
Student must complete eight hours of community service ad submit the hours.
Student must apply to and enroll in an eligible Tennessee Promise institution, and attend.

My Child Isn’t Going to College!

If you have a child with plans other than college, they still may want to complete the application. Applying does not obligate a student to attend college, but does ensure they do not miss the opportunity provided through the Tennessee Promise if they later change their mind and want to attend.
