Individualized Education Account (IEA) Program Applications Now Open for Eligible Students

Nashville, TN – the Tennessee Department of Education announced the Individualized Education Account (IEA) applications for the 2024/2025 school year is now open for eligible students with disabilities across the state. Families can apply for the program through Monday, April 15, 2024.

The IEA program provides families of eligible Tennessee students across the state with funds for approved educational expenses to support their unique needs, such as non-public school tuition or home school curriculum.

“All Tennessee families and students deserve access to education options that best fit their individual needs, including our students with disabilities, and I encourage all eligible families to look into the benefits of this program to further support your students,” said Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education.

To qualify for the IEA program, students must:

Maintain enrollment in a Tennessee public school for the entire current school year
Have an active Individualized Education Program (IEP) that is being implemented when applications close on April 15, 2024
Have a qualifying disability listed on their most recent IEP

The Individualized Education Act, or Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.) § 49-10-1401 et seq., was signed into law on May 18, 2015, and the IEA program began implementation during the 2016/2017 school year.

Applications for the 2024/2025 school year are open through Monday, April 15, 2024, and can be found on the department’s website here.
