Fourth Annual Sixth Circuit Civics Contest Now Open

The Sixth Circuit Civics and Outreach Committee is hosting the Fourth Annual Civics Contest for Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee (the four states that comprise the Sixth Circuit) high school students in ninth through twelfth grades. Students are asked to submit original essays that examine the significance of the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. The top entry will receive a cash prize.

Using the prompt guidelines, students are asked to:

“ . . . choose one of the 10 amendments in the Bill of Rights and, using relevant sources including case law and scholarly/peer reviewed journal articles, explain how the amendment you chose most strongly promotes the goals of the framers as articulated in the preamble.”

The essay should be between 500 and 1,000 words and proper footnotes and bibliographies will be considered during judging but will not be included in the word count.

Please submit the essay by e-mail as a Microsoft Word file to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024.
