Summer Bridge Program Provides a Path to College Readiness

The Summer Bridge Program is a free, 14-day program created to assist graduating high school seniors with being college-ready when they begin their freshman year of college. The program was designed for all college-bound students but is specifically geared towards those who are entering college with ACT scores below 19 in math or reading, and below 18 in English. The program will be offered on 15 campuses across Tennessee, making the opportunity conveniently accessible to students throughout the state.

Each day during the program, students will receive instruction from college professors in math, reading, and English, and attend a lunch and learn session with a focus on college success. Incoming college students usually must achieve a minimum ACT score or be required to take remedial courses to get them where they need to be in their education.

On the first and last day of the program, students will have the opportunity to take an untimed test (ACCUPLACER) to determine if they would test into college-level courses. Students can check with the college they will attend to learn if the scores from that test will allow them to start college in level courses and not require remedial instruction.

The Summer Bridge Program is open to any student entering their freshman year of college regardless of their ACT scores, even those who have not yet taken the ACT. Some colleges and universities are still test-optional where an ACT score is not required.

If you have a student who just wants a refresher before starting college, the Summer Bridge Program could give them the confidence they need to succeed.
